Social Gathering
Alaska Ocean's Festival

When:

Jun 7, 2008
noon-10pm - Saturday

Details:

The Sierra Club is looking for volunteers to help staff our booth at this year's Ocean's Festival on the Anchorage Parkstrip!  Our booth will focus on our efforts to preserve salmon habitat, outreach to fishing and sportsman's groups and promote fish oil biodiesel - a Smart Energy Solution!

The primary focus of the 6th annual Ocean Festival is to educate the public and raise awareness about the importance of healthy oceans and to celebrate the bounty of Alaska's many marine resources. With nearly half of the total state population living in Anchorage, the festival presents a unique opportunity to bring Alaskans together to celebrate the uniqueness of our oceans and the significance they have in our lives

Musicians, speakers, artists, fishermen, ocean recreationists, and ocean conservation groups converge in beautiful downtown Anchorage to spend a day celebrating our Alaskan connections to the ocean. Food vendors, a beer garden, the Seafood Olympics, a foot race, and the “Bucking Salmon” are just a few of the attractions that make the Alaska Oceans Festival one of Anchorage’s favorite summer events.

Son Volt headlines this year's festival, and Alexandra Cousteau is the keynote speaker.

Special Presentation - Salmon Before the City: History of Dea'ina and their relationship to local creeks, salmon and watersheds in Anchorage.  Jim Fall, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Aaron Leggett, Dena’ina Cultural Historian, Debbie Call, Chair, Cultural & Historical Preservation Committee
